| Samsung ATIV Q specs | Android & Windows 8 combinedWe go hands-on with Android and Windows 8 dual-booting Samsung ATIV QAside from the Galaxy S4 Zoom, last night’s big talking point was the launch of the Samsung ATIV Q – a 13.3-inch hybrid tablet with PC-grade specs that runs both [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and full-fat Windows 8. Positioned as a best of both worlds solution, the ATIV Q is a very compelling proposition packed with a myriad of features that are designed to make using it and, most importantly, switching between modes as seamless as possible. You can even install Android apps with Windows’ Start menu. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Running a stock version of Android 4.2 out the box, the ATIV Q isn’t the first dual-booter we’ve seen but it’s certainly the most proficient. Switching between the two platforms is as simple as hitting an icon on the Start screen or tapping the Windows button. Specs are also impressive. The ATIV Q packs Intel’s new Haswel-based Core i5 processor alongside a HD Graphics 4400 GPU and 4GB of DDR3L RAM, which should provide suitably impressive performance. There’s also 128GB SSD of storage and support for [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]. Nine hours is the magic number cited at launch, although we won’t know for sure until we’ve tested it properly. The display itself was exceptionally bright and plenty detailed – menus, games, video and images really pop off the screen. The ATIV Q’s qHD+ display also offers unparalleled viewing angles and exceptional performance in direct sunlight, according to Samsung (more on that in our full review though). Exact measurements are 327x217x13.9mm and weighs just 1.29KG. The ATIV Q doesn’t handle like a traditional tablet – you can’t use it as you would an iPad or Nexus 10 – but it is light enough to for casual sofa surfing and gaming, and it won’t give your shoulders too much of a work out when carrying it around in a satchel or backpack. Based around a hinge system, the ATIV Q can be used in a variety of modes: lay the display flat over the keyboard for tablet mode; raise the display upright to type just as you would a laptop; float and adjust the display to a comfortable viewing angle; or flip the display to place in the stand mode to watch movies. Samsung apparently tested and developed numerous versions before settling on the one present aboard the ATIV Q. The ATIV Q also supports S-Pen like the company’s Note range of devices but – somewhat divisively – it doesn’t feature a traditional PC-style trackpad. Instead Samsung has opted for a navigation nubbin, located inside the keyboard in order to conserve space. Given the already ample size of the ATIV Q, this was definitely a wise move. I’m suitably impressed by what it brings to the table and can’t wait to get to grips with it properly once we secure a review unit from Samsung. Samsung ATIV Q Specs
